Moderate quake hits northeastern Bangladesh
2 hours ago

A shallow, 4.9-magnitude earthquake hit northeastern Bangladesh early Sunday, meteorologists said.

The US Geological Survey (USGS) said the quake was centred 115 kilometres (70 miles) north of the capital Dhaka at a depth of 5.2 kilometres and struck at 12:51 am (1851 GMT Saturday).

There were no reports of any damage or casualties, but the tremor was felt in Dhaka and a police spokesman in Mymensingh, the district nearest the epicentre, told AFP it sparked panic there.

A meteorologist at Bangladesh's Storm Warning Centre said it had measured the quake at 5.6 on the Richter scale, according to local media reports.

Bangladesh last month announced plans to step up its earthquake response contingency plans.

The South Asian nation sits on active tectonic plates and is frequently jolted by tremors. The last major earthquake struck in 1896.

Aldous Huxley published his most famous novel Brave New World in 1932. The book is a cautionary tale of a dystopian future version of London, Huxley’s hometown, in the year 2540. The book’s vision is of a country ruled entirely by the government, and all conflict, suffering and ultimately, all free thought is against government’s regulations. In brief, it’s about what the world would look like of no one was able to choose for themselves, voice their opinions, or live how they saw fit, all being hampered by a governments’ iron fist. Huxley was criticized for his work, and still is to this day. Whether or not it was controversial, parallels exist in modern America, although not nearly as pervasive. The American government and state governments are beginning to impose many restrictions through legislation. For instance, certain areas in Los Angeles are off limits to fast food restaurants. Burger stands aren’t the only businesses starting to be zoned out; payday loan lenders are also feeling the pinch. Many state and national legislators are pledging to do away with this vital services if elected. They’re trying to get elected to serve their own self interest. Where do we, as people, draw the line at where the government can’t tell us what to do?

Disasters are...
Disasters are unpredictable. We never know when they are going to come, that’s why it is very much important to be ready for us to easily respond on emergency situation. When natural disasters strike, it can leave a huge weight on your dwellings, as well as your finances. I was fortunate to have access to quick money loans, which helped tremendously when a natural disaster struck my hometown. The people who were affected by the California wildfires should be informed and have the same access to the extremely useful resource – quick money loans. Flood devastated my community back in the winter of 2007. Unlike many victims in the California’s current wildfire, I was fortunate enough not to lose my home. Still, I was forced to evacuate under short notice. Not only was I unable to stay at home, but the freeway was shut down, and I was not able to get to my job. While making no money, I was spending more money. I mean, I really didn’t have a choice and I was clearly at a roadblock. To make matters worse, I didn’t have flood insurance at the time and had to pay all of the damages done to my home and my belongings. That was besides the supply of food needed and the hotel bill. Natural disasters can really cause financial disasters. I have since gotten flood insurance, but I was still unable to cover all of the costs. I then found out about quick money loans, and thank goodness I did. Now, I’ve made sure that if anything like that should ever happen again, I will be prepared. Even still, I would use quick money loans in a heartbeat to help pay for any emergency needs. Click here to read more on California Wildfires|Take Refuge with Quick Money Loans.
